Adelina de Jesus Tavares Guerra Ferreira, 75, of Colonia, NJ, died on Wednesday (June 10th, 2020) in her home surrounded by loved ones, while holding her children's hand, due to complications of ALS.
Adele was born on February 25th, 1945, in Vila Cortes da Serra, Gouveia, Portugal. As was common in most cases for families when migrating to the United States of America, her family became separated. The first to migrate to the U.S. was her father Antonio Guerra, followed by her mother Emelia Guerra, eldest sister Maria, and second eldest sister Aida. After three years of being cared for by their grandfather, Adele and her youngest sister Maria de Lurdes, made the journey to America and were reunited with their family at the age of 12. She attended Lafayette Highschool in Newark, NJ. In her younger years, Adele was a member of the Portuguese Club, in Newark, NJ, where she occasionally partook in folk dancing, and plays alongside her sister Aida.
Married in 1970 to her husband of 50 years Albino Ferreira, they raised a family in Hillside, NJ, and later Colonia, NJ. Adele was a supervisor at Canter Dress Company, in Elizabeth, NJ, before deciding to stay home to raise and care for her family. She was extremely close with all her sisters, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Especially her nephew Eddie whom she was joined at the hip.
The amount of time and love that she put in as a devoted Wife, Mother, and Grandmother was unparalleled. A fantastic sense of humor and a hug that would make all troubles melt away. Adele loved spending time at their summer house in Cape May with family and friends. She enjoyed having everyone over for dinners making sure that you never went home empty handed. Her passion was attending her grandchildren's games and events, making it a point to let everyone know who she was there for by being their biggest cheerleader. Her signature rice pudding, her cooking, her voice, her friendship, her calming presence, and her beautiful smile will be terribly missed.
