Alberta Lane, 79, of Cranford, died on Sunday morning, September 21, 2008, in the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains from complications following a stroke. She was born in Elizabeth, grew up in Linden, and graduated from Linden High School. Her secretarial skills enabled her to advance rapidly to the position of executive secretary in custom design equipment engineering companies in New York and New Jersey.
In 1954, Alberta and Marvin Lane were married in New York City where they lived until 1957 when they moved to Cranford. She is survived by her loving husband Marvin, a son Andrew Lane, his wife Norma Lee-Lane and their sons Christopher and Michael; son David Lane and his wife Melanie Podsiadlo; a brother Alexander Shukis, sister Sally Ashmont, sister Helen Baselici and brother-in-law Milton Aion.
Avid tennis player, bridge player, gardener, reader, lover of classic movies, crossword puzzler, cook, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she touched the lives of many with her kindness, warmth and compassion.
The family will welcome all friends and relatives to their home at 34 Harvard Road, Cranford on Sunday, September 28th, between 12 noon and 5pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Alberta's name to the American Stroke Association: http://www.strokeassociation.org/.
