Services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2006 in the Gray Memorial Funeral Home 12 Springfield Ave. Cranford for Alfred J. Oram. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Visitation is today from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the funeral home.
Mr. Oram age 80 died on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006 in Muhlenburg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. He was born in Hillside and has resided in Cranford for many years. He was a graduate of Cranford High School class of 1944. He served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II as a Staff Sgt. and participated in Iwo Jima and in China. After being discharged he became a Cranford Police Officer. He was then recalled for the Korean Conflict and served as a Tech Sgt. Upon his discharge he became a partner in Al & Jacks Texaco in Cranford for several years. He then worked for General Motors in Linden and was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 595. He retired in 1985 after 15 years with General Motors.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris of Cranford. He is also survived by his son Craig T. Oram of Cranford a daughter Chris A. Gemra of Basking Ridge. Two sisters; Joan Stanton of Cranford and Lois Callaghan of North Carolina. He will also be deeply missed by his two grandchildren, Richard and Carolyn Gemra.
