Mr. Alfred Stiefel, 88 passed away on Friday, May 9, 2008 at his home in Lakewood. Visitation will be on Monday, May 12 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm at the Community Presbyterian Church in Mountainside.
Mr. Stiefel was born in Germany and came to the US as a child and lived in Irvington until 1958 when he moved to Mountainside. He later retired to Lakewood.
Mr. Stiefel served in the Army during World War II and received a Bronze Star.
He was the 2nd generation owner and President of Robert Stiefel and Son Inc. a roofing company in Irvington NJ.
Mr. Stiefel was a member and past President of the Sanger Chor and also a member of several other German singing societies. He was also a member of the choir at Community Presbyterian Church.
He is predeceased by his first wife Anne Alice Stiefel. He is survived by his wife, Elfriede Stiefel; his children Kenneth E. and Paul A. and his stepchildren Pam and Fred. He will also be deeply missed by his six grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Deutcher Club of Clark or Van Dyke Hospice at Community Medical Center in Toms River.
