Alice Foley Shill, of Westfield, N.J. died on December 6th, 2005.
Mrs. Shill was born in Philadelphia
Pa. lived in Newark, De. and Cape May, N.J. before moving to Westfield in 1956.
She was a graduate of the Univ. of Pennsylvania with a B.S. and Masters degree in Education. Mrs.Shill was employed by the Newark De Board of Education from 1940 to 1942 and the Cape May Board of Education from 1942 to 1956. While in Westfield she served as a volunter with the Adult Literacy program.
Mrs Shill was a former member of the Cape May Island Baptist Church where she was a soloist and Choir member for many years. Currently a member of the First Bapist Church in Westfield where she was a member of the Chancel Choir for 40
years. She was also a 25 year member of the Women's Trio of the Church. Other memberships include American Baptist Women and the Chi Omega Sorority.
After Mr Shill's retirement in 1976
they traveled extensively through the United States and Canada as well as taking 7 trips to Europe. In the early 1980's she and Mr Shill participated in an archeological dig in York, England where they helped restore an old Viking settlement. While in Angers, France she made an
intensive study of the French language.
Her husband, Harold B. Shill, Jr. died in March of 2000. Surviving are two sons, Harold B. Shill, 3rd of Hummelstown, Pa. and David E.
Shill of Roselle Park, N.J. Also
surviving are two Grand-daughers, Kristin S. Tedesco of Chatham N.J.
and Jennifer S. Bischoff of Franklin N.J.
There will be a Memorial Gathering Service on Sunday December 18, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Westfield N.J. at 1 PM.
Arrangments are by the Gray Funeral Home, Westfield. N.J. There will be no visitation. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Music Program of the First Bapist Church in Westfield.
