Arnold "Gig" Gordon Manville, 1941-2014

Arnold "Gig" Gordon Manville, 73, died the morning of Friday, October 10 at his Carleton Road home in Westfield. After bravely battling pancreatic cancer for a year and a half, he was surrounded by his loving family as he peacefully passed away.
Gig's Life Celebration and visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9PM Sunday October 12th, at Gray Funeral Directors, 318 E. Broad St., Westfield, where his funeral service will begin at 10AM Monday October 13, 2014. Interment will be 11AM Tuesday October 14, 2014 in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Albany, NY.
Born in Troy, NY, Arnold was the son of the late E. Foster and Edna T. Lassoe Manville. After graduating from Troy High School in 1959, Gig earned a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master's degree from Stanford University. Arnold was a veteran who served in the Navy as a Civil Engineering Corp Officer.
Arnold resided in Westfield, New Jersey for the past 39 years. He spent much of his professional career as a Construction Executive, first working at George A Fuller construction, then Damon Douglas and continued working as Vice President at Railroad Construction Company in Paterson. He was a tireless supporter of amateur athletics throughout New Jersey. He served in many community roles such as the Westfield School Boosters Association President and Westfield Basketball Association President. Gig loved watching professional sports with his son, seeing Broadway shows with his daughter, and attending all activities his grandchildren participated in. When he wasn't at work or spending time with his family, Arnold enjoyed exercising and having meals with his buddies at the Union Plaza Diner on Route 22. He will always be remembered as a generous, kind, and loving friend, brother, father, and grandfather
Survivors include his son, Ryan Manville and daughter-in-law Jennifer, granddaughter Maxine and grandson Jack of Scotch Plains, NJ; his daughter, Allison Metz and son-in-law Mark, granddaughter Amelia of East Grand Rapids, MI; a sister, Sharon M. Beaudoin and brother-in-law Laurence of Troy, NY; and his brother, Richard W. Manville and sister-in-law Carol of Baldwinsville, NY. He was predeceased by his brother, Wayne Manville, also survived by his nieces, Bethany Beaudoin of Troy, NY, Tracy Hopkins and Jill Lawlor of Baldwinsville, NY, Susan Morgan of North Kingstown, RI, Barbara Sheehan of Wayne, PA; nephew Rick Manville of Cammillus, NY.
Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to Eva's Village in Paterson,NJ, the Westfield School Boosters Association, or Camp Lou Henry Hoover (part of Girl Scouts Hearts of New Jersey).
