Arthur Hamilton Bishop

A memorial service is to be held on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11 am in the chapel of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, 140 Mountain Ave., Westfield, NJ for Arthur Hamilton Bishop, Jr. Arrangements are by the Gray Funeral Home 318 East Broad Street, Westfield.
Mr. Bishop age 81 died on Sunday, June 25, 2006 in the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in Roselle Park and lived in Westfield for many years. For the last 15 years he wintered in Tuscon, Arizona and spent his summers in Spring Lake, NJ.
Mr. Bishop was a veteran of the US Army, serving during World War II as a Staff Sargeant. He received the American Service Medal, EAME Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He graduated in 1949 from Cornell University with a BS in Hotel Management.
For over 25 years he was the president and owner of Jean's Foods of NJ inc. in Linden NJ.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Cornell Golf and Diving teams.
He was a member of the Westfield JayCee's. He also was a member of the Spring Brook Country Club in Morristown, Colonia Country Cub and was a 40 year member and past President of Plainfield Country Club.
Everyone who came in contact with him felt his warmth and was taken in by his friendly ways. A kinder gentler man could not be found. We were all blessed knowing him.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy H. Bishop. A daughter, Sandy Smith of Discovery Bay, Cal. A son, Arthur H. (Skip) Bishop III of Vienna, Virginia. A sister, Bette Hurd of FLorida. He will also be deeply missed by his 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
