Avis W. Skinner

February 24, 1925 — February 26, 2007

Avis Grant Skinner died peacefully surrounded by her family at Overlook Hospital on February 26, 2007, after a short illness.

Born in Tientsin China, she grew up in Shanghai where her father, P.S. Grant was a director of The British American Tobacco Co.
Her mother, Elizabetha Familiant Grant, escaped from Russia to Harbin China during the Russian Revolution. In 1940 Avis was evacuated
with her mother and brother from China to her father's home in Richmond, VA. She attended the British American School in Shanshai,
the Collegiate School in Richmond and Randolph Macon Women's College in Virginia.

She resided in Westfield for 60 years and was associated with various charitable organizations including the Junior League of Elizabeth-
Plainfield, the Auxillary for Childrens Specialized Hospital and The Westfield Garden Club. She and her husband Jim were active members
of Echo Lake Country Club since 1948, where she played golf thru 2006. She was an accomplished artist, enjoyed traveling with friends
reading, playing piano, the theater and movies.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 61 years Jim, her daughter Avis Skinner-Medawar, son-in-law Alex and grand-
daughter Flora Avis Medawar of Nantucket, her son Robert and daughter-in-law Barbara Skinner of Stewartsville NJ and grand-daughter
Daphne Skinner of Lake Tahoe, CA.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 11:30 AM. at St Pauls Episcopal Church in Westfield. In lieu of flowersp
donations may be made to either Children's
Specialized Hospital or St. Pauls Episcopal Chruch in Westfield.
