Bernice Barsnica

Bernice Barsnica of Cranford passed away on January 5, 2009, at Peggy's House, Center for Hope, Scotch Plains, NJ. She was 92. Formerly a life-long resident of Elizabeth, she moved to Cranford in the early 1990's. Bernice was a devoted wife, a loving Mother, caring Grandmother, Great Grandmother and aunt.
Bernice was a member of the Ogonowski family and married Emil Barsnica who predeceased her in 1981. Two daughters survive her: Barbara Napolitano and Theresa Whetstine and her husband Thomas. A son, Martin passed away in 2000. Jason Barsnica, Debra Napolitano, Daniel Barsnica and Donald Napolitano are her grandchildren. She is also survived by her great grandchild, Nicolas and a brother, Joseph Ogonowski.
Bernice belonged to the Polish community of Elizabeth Port. She worked in a factory during World War II and then became a stay at home mom. In the early 1960's she was a Girl Scout leader in Elizabeth. During the late 60's she worked part time doing office clerical work. In the late 60's and early 70's she volunteered at Alexian Brother's Hospital and retired in the mid 70's. She was also a member of the Polish Legion of American Veteran Ladies Auxiliary Elizabeth Post #91.
Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Friday from 7-9 pm at the Gray Memorial Funeral Home 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford. A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael Church in Cranford at 9:30 am on Saturday with interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Center for Hope Hospice, Scotch Plains, NJ would be greatly appreciated.
