Carl R. Peterson Sr. age 88 died at The Passionate Care Hospice of St. Clair's Hospital in Dover, NJ.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he lived in Roselle Park before moving to Cranford in 1945. Graduated from Pace Institute in 1941 with a certificate in business. Carl worked in Internal Control for Exxon Research and Engineering specializing in financial services. He worked there for 45 years and retired in 1982. He served in World War Two as a Chief Warrent Officer of the 774th Tank Destroyer Batalion and awarded the Bronze Star for his meritorious service. He was an active member of The First Presbyterian Church of Cranford. There he sang in their chior, served as a tresurer, elder, and served on the board of trustees. He was past president four times of the churches couples club. Past president of The Cranford Dramatic Club. Former member of the Lake Shawnee Club. An active actor her was in over 40 productions. He was a member of The Cranford Historical Society. Past President of The Cranford Historical Society, he also served on its board of governors. "Carl's Garden" located behind The Crane Phillis House was established by a local eagle scout and dedicated to Peterson for his contribution to the historical society. In 2002 Carl was presented with the Pride in Cranford Award by the Chamber Of Commerce. He is pre deceased by his loving wife, Janet Karsberg Peterson who died in 2004. He is survived by his daughters, Karin E. Burk and her husband Henry of Cranford, and their sons Eric with his wife Andrea, and David with his wife Linda. Daughter, Joanne P. Rinder , and son-in-law Rick, and their son Lucas. A son Carl R. Peterson Jr. and his son Niles of Lake Hopatcong, NJ. Three great grandsons, Odin, and Sean Burk, and Lucas Ridner Jr. Private visitation and burial by The Gray Mmemorial Fueral Home 12 Springfield Ave. in Cranford, NJ. A memoiral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Cranford 11 AM on Saturday September 15, 2007 . Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in his memory to the First Presbyterian Church in Cranford, Parkinson's Foundation or the charity of your choice.
