Carolyn Mitilenes, age 100, most recently of Warren, NJ, passed away on Sunday August 4, 2024, at Morristown Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. Born and raised in Newark, NJ, she was the beloved daughter of the late Theodore and Catherine (Katica) Jovanis. She was the voted the “Prettiest Greek Girl” in 1942 by a local Greek organization. Carolyn and her husband Nickolas lived in West Orange for more than 40 years, where they raised their family. Carolyn had been a volunteer aide at West Orange High School, working in the school library and the guidance office. She enjoyed cooking and travelling, but most importantly spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded by her beloved husband Nickolas G. Militenes, and dear brothers: Peter and Paul Jovanis. She was the devoted mother of daughter: Georgene Bonard and husband Thomas of Westfield, son: Dr. George N. Mitilenes (Robin) of Mendham, five grandchildren: Katie Warshaw (Isaac), Nicky Mitilenes (Tiffany), Tommy Bonard (Pamela), Katrina Mitilenes, Georgie Mitilenes, four great grandchildren: Sloane, Isabella, Avery, Tommy, and two more on the way. Carolyn’s funeral liturgy will begin at 11:00AM Wednesday August 7, 2024 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hill Road, Westfield, where a visitation will begin at 10:30AM in the Church.
