Charles B. Aurand

Charles Bracken Aurand, 67 formerly of Cranford, NJ passed away peacefully and surrounded by the love of his family on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospice House in Bethlehem, PA after battling Alzheimer's disease.
Born on February 28, 1950 in Westfield, NJ â he was the son of the late Elwin C and Vera B Aurand; He attended Westfield High School where he met his wife, Karen, graduated in 1968 and married in November, 1969. His happy, devoted marriage to Karen of almost 40 years produced a loving family of 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Charles was a beloved Father, Uncle and Pop-Pop.
He enlisted in the Army in January, 1969. Served in the Army for 3 years, stationed in Vietnam and Germany. While in the Army he was known as 'Big Red' and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and an Army Commendation Medal.
He worked in consumer lending and as a mortgage banker for over 35 years. He was a licensed mortgage banker for over 20 years before he retired in 2007. Prior to his retirement he worked for Wachovia Bank for 10 years which brought him to Alabama in 2006 and he moved back to Manchester, NJ to be close to the beach in 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elwin C. and Vera B. Aurand, his in-laws Charles and Helen J. Eberling, his siblings Robert E. Aurand and Gale Kenyon, his wife Karen E. Aurand (2009,) his brothers-in-law Dean P. and Charles L. Eberling and his nephew, Mark J. Kenyon, Jr.
Surviving are his 3 children, Kimberly and son in law, CraigVanPell, Easton PA. Tracee Blanton, Cranford NJ, and Todd Aurand, New Orleans LA. His grandchildren, Patrick 15, Ryan 14 and Meghan VanPell 11 and Callie Blanton 8; they will all miss their Pop-Pop's sense of humor and infectious smile.
Also survived by his sisters-in-law, Linda (Charles) Eberling, Amy (Dean) Eberling and brother-in-law Mark (Gale) Kenyon. Nieces and nephews, Susan (Alex) Wright, Wendy (Yury) Tkaczyszyn, Corinne (Brian) Ardente and Lauren Eberling. Melissa Kenyon, Matthew Aurand, Michael Aurand, and many beloved great nieces and nephews affectionately referred to as Uncle Chach!
Visitation and Life Celebration will be held at Gray Memorial Funeral Home at Springfield Avenue, Cranford, NJ on Tuesday September 26th from 4 to 8 pm.
The funeral service will be10 am at Trinity Episcopal Church in Cranford, NJ on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association alz.org
We are comforted knowing that he will be himself again and reunited with our mother and so many other loved ones.
