Charles P. Damato

Charles P. Damato, 79, of Cranford, died at home on Sunday January 30, 2011, following a brief battle with cancer. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Wednesday February 2, 2011 at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Avenue, Cranford. Mass of the Christian Burial will celebrated at 9:30 AM Thursday February 3, 2011, in St. Michael Catholic Church, Cranford. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Born in Staten Island, NY, he was an auto mechanic for many years. He moved to Cranford in 1964, and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Mr. Damato served in the US Navy during the Korean War years, and was an avid NY Giants fan. He was the devoted husband of the late Sara Jean Williams Damato. Married for 52 years he lovingly cared for her during her illness. He is surived by four children: Cecilia Sydlo and her husband James R. of Colonia, Thomas Damato of Linden, Maryann Halbeisen of Rahway, Allison Smith and her husband Steve of Colonia, seven grandchildren, and brother Cony Damato of Fair Lawn, NJ.
