Charles Edward Roberts, 92, a life long resident of Cranford passed away peacefully December 26, 2011. Friends are invited to attend a Service of Remembrance at 10:00 AM Friday, January 6, 2012 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Cranford. Private interment took place in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. He joins his deceased wife Janet and son Steven. Charles graduated Cranford High School in 1936 and the College of William and Mary in 1940. After distinguished Army service in WWII, he received his MBA in Accounting from NYU and went on to operate his own accounting firm in Westfield and Fanwood until he retired in 2007. Charlie was quiet and unassuming until he sat down at the bridge table where his focus was intense. He was a competitive bowler until his later years, known for using a two fingered ball. Charles was generous with his time and would go out of his way to help friends and associates. He made the best of any situation. His sense of humor seemed to lighten any conversation. He gave much back to the community where he had been honored for his service to United Way and is remembered for time given to organizations such as Trinity Church and Fairview Cemetery. He was instrumental in the development of Cranford's community pools. Charles is survived by his loving wife Marilyn as well as by his brothers Austin and Edmund, children Charles Jr. (Ned), Thomas, Elizabeth Wojcio, William, Jeffrey and David. He especially enjoyed time spent with his 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren including this past holiday season. The carefree play of the youngsters put a special sparkle in his eye. A hug from Charlie is never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the College of William and Mary, P.O. Box 1693 Williamsburg, Virginia 23187 or to Trinity Church, Forrest and North Avenues Cranford, NJ 07016.
