Clark J. Duckworth, 83 a lifelong resident of Cranford passed away on Monday, August 3, 2009 in the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains. Mr. Duckworth was a Captain in the Cranford Fire Department which he had served for 31 years, two as a call man and 29 as a paid firefighter. He was in the Navy Air Corps as an aviation machinist mate, serving in the European Theater district aboard the USS Helena during World War II. He was a past president of FMBA Local 37, Life member of FMBA 37, state FMBA and Firemen's Relief Assoc. He served as Trustee for the First Presbyterian Church, Cranford, a trustee for the Cranford Historical Society and a member of VFW Post No. 335. Clark is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty; two daughters, Laurel Johns and her husband Ric of Plymouth Minnesota; Linda Duckworth and her husband Steven Cozzolino of Montclair NJ; and grandchildren Katie Johns, Emily Johns and Carly Cozzolino. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, August 7 at 10:30 am in The First Presbyterian Church, 11 Springfield Ave. Cranford. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Gray Memorial Funeral Home; 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford. Memorial contributions in Clark's name may be made to either the First Presbyterian Church, Cranford or the Cranford First Aid Squad.
