Constance Brown “Connie”
September 7, 1940 - July 11, 2024
Constance Brown, (only daughter of Suzie and Edward Atkins) 83 years old and resident of Cranford NJ, peacefully passed in the presence of her loving son Kevin on Thursday July 11th. Connie was happily married to her late husband Roger Brown who passed away after 25 years of marriage. Connie and Roger met in their senior year at Arts High School in Newark, NJ; they didn’t know each other until another couple helped to introduce them by asking both if either had a prom date for their senior prom. Connie was very active in High School yearbook and prom committees. Roger was the love of her life. The couple celebrated the birth of their 3 children: Kevin Brown (Jeanette), Patrick Brown (Nancy) Suzanne Brown (Steve Buchholz). Connie leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Christopher, Adriana, Sean, Bryan. Connie was a very proud that her 3 grandsons became Eagle Scouts and her granddaughter became a Gold Award Recipient for The Girl Scouts of America. Connie also leaves behind 3 Great-Grandchildren: Jordyn, Hayden, and Elliott.
Connie enjoyed working before marriage at a department store designing displays for the store. She was then employed at Public Service Electric and Gas Co. in Newark, NJ. After marriage, she enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother, raising her 3 children and volunteering at The Cranford Women’s Club and was a member of the Cranford Women’s Bridge Club. She re-entered the job market after raising her children and working a few years at Cranford Township Municipality Accounting Department, Plymouth Printing Company, Valcor Engineering, to then finally retire from Schering Plough Pharmaceuticals.
Connie was a devoted reader of non-fiction and fiction books. She especially liked mystery, true life murder books, and was devoted to learning about world war history. She really enjoyed cooking especially baking desserts/ tarts/ cookies. She enjoyed PBS Masterpiece theater shows. Connie lived a full and peaceful life in spite of the early loss of her spouse. She lived her best life possible and had a wonderful sense of humor once you got to know her well. She will be sorely missed by her children and grandchildren.
As per Connie’s wishes, Gray Memorial Funeral Home in Cranford, will hold a private family gathering followed by Fairview Cemetery at @11 am for final resting prayers and service.
