Donald Francis Alfano Obituary Alfano, Donald Francis, 85, of Westfield, N.J. on August 28, 2009. Mr. Alfano was born in Jersey City and was a graduate of St. Peter's Prep, St. Peter's College, and Fordham University. He served with the United States Army as a medic in the European Theater during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star for his valor. Mr. Alfano had a notable career in fundraising and development both nationally and internationally, focusing primarily on education and healthcare. He served as Development Director of Niagara University, founded Development Directions Inc., Rockefeller Center, New York, and was Executive Vice President at The College of Mount Saint Vincent. He received many secular and religious honors in the course of his career. Mr. Alfano lent his prodigious talents to numerous non-profit organizations and served as a Director of the Pope John XXIII Medical-Moral Research and Educational Center, now known as the National Catholic Bioethics Center. Mr. Alfano is survived by his wife Loretta (Tarczynski), sisters Dorothy Szot and Madeline Fernandez of Westfield, and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at The Church of the Holy Trinity, Westfield, N.J. on September 5, 2009 at 10am. There will be no visitation and interment is private. Contributions in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
