Obituary – Donald Finter AT&T Marketing, Bellcore – Telcordia Technologies World War II Navy Veteran, Licensed Pilot Donald Finter of Westfield, NJ, died peacefully at home on Thursday, June 2. A memorial service will begin at 1:00PM Saturday June 11, 2011 in the chapel of the Presbyterian Church, located at 140 Mountain Avenue in Westfield, NJ. Arrangements Gray Funeral Directors, Westfield. A decorated Navy veteran, he served on the U.S.S. Vella Gulf and U.S.S. Mindoro aircraft carriers in the south Pacific during World War II. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from Indiana's Franklin College and an MBA from American University in Washington, DC. Mr. Finter also worked for Sperry Rand, Western Union and RCA during his 40 years in the communications industry. He retired from Bellcore as Director of Licensing in 1992. While at RCA and Western Union, he was involved with satellite communications services. Mr. Finter was a former adjutant of the Disabled American Veterans, President of the Westfield Tennis Club, Director of the Westfield Old Guard, President of the Park Fairfax Tennis Club, a licensed pilot and a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, a Red Cross Aquatic Instructor and a Life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mr Finter was also a Master Mason affiliated with the Atlas Pythagoras Lodge of Westfield, NJ. Born in Westfield, NJ, he lived in Alexandria, VA and Cheshire, CT before returning to Westfield, NJ, in 1961. Mr. Finter was a Little League Baseball Coach and refereed semi-pro and high school football games. He also played varsity football and basketball while in college. He is survived by his wife, Lucille, two sons, Scott and Steven, and his sister, Genevieve Lentzsch. In lieu of flowers, you may contribute to Mr. Finter's favorite charity, the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad.
