Dorothy Scruton Baldwin of Cranford passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 just shy of her 91st birthday (9/23/25), at Sunrise of Westfield. Born in Plainfield, Dot graduated from Westfield High School. She was a secretary for Bristol Meyers in NYC before starting her family in Westfield and then moving to Cranford in 1949.
Dorothy is predeceased by her brother Mack (1928) and her husband of 66 years Richard Baldwin who passed away May 2011. Surviving are their children Bill Baldwin, Sue Rau, Linda DiDario and Barbara Bartolomeo. Eight grandchildren, Jennifer Baldwin, Kevin, Ryan, Jay and Shannon Rau, Amylin DiDario and Logan and Trevor Bartolomeo, as well as her stepsister Harriet Denny in FL.
Dorothy was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cranford where her calm presence, wisdom and sense of humor were treasured. She was a member of the Cranford Historical Society, as well as the Wednesday Morning Club at church. She quickly became an active, social resident of the Sunrise Community after moving there in 2014. She was known for her kind and helpful presence as well as her willingness to suggest new ways to do things. The world is a better place, for so many, thanks to Dot. She will be forever in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Cranford, Saturday, October 1st at 11:00, all are welcome. Arrangements by Gray Funeral Directors, Cranford. You may go to grayfuneralhomes.com for on lone condolences.
