Edwin L. Wells 87, born Orange, NJ, died of cancer Tuesday, June 14, at UMDNJ, Newark. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Mary Riggs Wells, a son Gordon, and daughter Elisabeth (Beverly) Worth. He is survived by his brother, Warren Wells and his wife Audrey. His sister, Jean Alice Wells pre-deceased him in 1975. He has one grand-son and two great-grand children. In 1984, he retired from Foster-Wheeler Corp., where he used his Chemical Engineering education (B.S. NJIT �48, M.S. NJIT �54) to create computer models of oil refining processes. As a Boy Scout, he achieved Eagle Scout. As an adult, he remained active in scouting. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard LST 772 in the invasion of Okinawa, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. After Navy service, travel continued to be a passion, with the family living in Abadan, Iran for two years. Viewing will be at Gray Memorial Funeral Home 12 Springfield Ave. Cranford, Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 pm. A celebration of life memorial service will be 11 am Monday June 20, 2011 at the first Presbyterian Church, 11 Springfield Avenue., Cranford.
