Eileen Howard, (nee Tangney), 93, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, 18 April 2020, after a long illness. Her death was not related to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
'Lile' was born in Rosnacarthna Mor, Faha, Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland and attended Faha Cross School and The Presentation Convent Secondary School, Killarney, where her life long love of learning was kindled. She worked and attended nursing school at Dulwich Hospital, London, England before emigrating to the United States in 1953. She worked several years at The Margaret Hague Hospital, Jersey City, and Alexian Brothers Hospital and Elizabeth General Hospital, both in Elizabeth, before settling with her family in Rahway, where she would continue to serve the community as a Rahway Hospital nurse, rising to become Assistant Director of Nursing, Evenings before retiring in 1991. She was a long- time parishioner of Saint Mary's Church, Rahway, and after moving to Cranford in 1995, of Saint Michael's Church, Cranford.
Mrs. Howard was predeceased by her husband fellow Kerryman John, in 2016, her four siblings: Michael, William, Noreen and Paddy and her niece Colleen Tangney Mattioli. She is survived by her five (5) children, Jerry, Mary, Agnes, Patrick and Jill, their spouses and seven (7) grand children.
She was a self-sacrificing and loving mother, a solicitous and dedicated nurse, and a decisive and practical manager. "Beannacht De ort!"
