Emma Townsend died peacefully Feb. 3 at home in Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains, N.J. She was 92. Born Emma Louise Hopler in Newark, N.J., she lived in Mountainside, N.J., for 54 years. As a young woman, she worked in many clerical and secretarial positions, including a job with the Eastern Aircraft Division of General Motors. She was a Cub Scout leader and a volunteer at the Mountainside Public Library and the Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick W. Townsend, and her son, Frederick "Ricky" Townsend. She is survived by her son, Robert S. Townsend and his wife, Terry; and her granddaughter, Rebecca Townsend. Visiting will be at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad St., Westfield, N.J., on Sunday, Feb. 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a memorial service at the funeral home at 4 p.m.
