Esperanza Besosa Korley

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 in the Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford from 10 am until 12 noon for Esperanza Besosa Korley. Immediately following the gathering a memorial service will be held at 12 noon in the funeral home.
Mrs. Besosa Korley age 78 was born in New York City and grew up in Newark, where she graduated from Central High School. She has been a resident of Mountainside since 1961.
Mrs. Besosa Korley was a music afficionado. She had been a soprano with the Westfield Methodist Church Choir for many years. She was also a soloist who performed at many weddings and Masonic Lodges. During the late 1940's and early 1950's she was a night club singer performing in Elizabeth and Newark. She also recorded several albums.
Mrs. Korley worked for the New Jersey Department of Labor. She began her career as a claims clerk and eventually became a claims examiner in the East Orange Unemployment Offices and then the Plainfield and New Brunswick Unemployment Offices. She was transferred to the Central Offic in Trenton where she was an Administrator Analyst. While working in Trenton, she was sent to the Department of Labor in San Juan, Puerto Rico as a coordinator for the Migrant Workers Program. She traveled extensively throughout the Island's various offices. She retired from the Central Office in Trenton in 1991 after 23 years of service.
Mrs. Korley enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. Recently she begun courses at Union County College in computer science and drawing. In addition, she enjoyed sports such as bicycling, swimming, golf, cross country skiing and aerobics.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Joseph S. Korley. A daughter, Pamaela Haack. Two sons David and Eric. A sister, Mildred Cole and brothers; Jordan and Nelson Besosa. She will also be deeply missed by her seven grandchildren.
