Eugene W. Thorn

Eugen W. Thorn, 76 of Toms River formerly of Cranford, died peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Services will be held on Monday, August 17, 2009 at 11 am at St. Michael's Church, 40 Alden Street, Cranford. Viewing is Sunday, August 16, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford. Born in Elizabeth, he resided in Cranford for 38 years before moving to Toms River. He was a retired Sheet Metal Worker Local 22 for 40 years. He served in the Army during the Korean War as a Sgt. 1st Cavalry 8th Regiment. He was a member of American Legion Post 328 Clark, Life Member VFW Post 335 Cranford, D.A.V. of Toms River Chapter 24, Scoutmaster of Troop 80 in Cranford 22 years, and Treasurer of Local 22 Retirees. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Kathleen T. (nee Kaiser), son & daughter-in-law Daniel & Stacy Thorn, daughter & son-in-law Marijean & Frank Battistella, pre-deceased by brother Russell A. DeVinney, sister Grace Napolitano, beloved Pop-Pop to Christina & Thomas Battistella and Derek & Sierra Thorn, sister-in-law Mari-Alice Kaiser, nieces & nephews and many extended family & friends.
