Frances E. Jewett passed away at home at the age of 92 after a long illness. She had been a resident of Westfield for 63 years. Mrs. Jewett was born in Passaic, NJ, and lived in HoHoKus as a small child. She was the daughter of Esther and John F. Wehrell. She graduated from Passaic High School and then studied art at Pratt in New York. Before her marriage, she briefly worked at Callaway Mills in New York. She continued her art studies through most of the rest of her life and had many exhibits locally. She was very active in the Presbyterian Church of Westfield where, among other things, she taught Sunday School. She was also a Brownie Scout leader. Mrs. Jewett was predeceased by her husband, Howard I. Jewett. Mr. and Mrs. Jewett were married for 58 years. Mrs. Jewett is survived by her daughters Barbara S. O'Desky of Somerset and Linda C. Thorn of Cranford, as well as her son-in-law Gary Thorn, her grandchildren John H. Ruggiano of Sayerville, Elizabeth L. DeChellis and her husband Daniel of Bridgewater, Amy L. Thorn of Belmar, Jeffrey H. Thorn and his wife Kathryn of Elkridge, MD, and David L. Thorn of Denver, CO. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Daniel DeChellis, Jr., John Paul DeChellis, and Abbey Thorn. Mrs. Jewett was interred in Fairview Cemetery after a brief service for the family.
