Frederick William Schaefer
July 20, 1920 — April 3, 2009
Frederick William Schaefer Jr. age 88 of Basking Ridge and Stuart Florida died on April third of heart failure. The memorial service will be 11 AM Friday May 8th at St Paul's Episcopal Church in Westfield, NJ.
"Dutch" was born in Brooklyn, NY moving to Forest Hills, NY, and then to Westfield, NJ. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1942.
During World War Two, he served as a Lead Navigator in the Eighth Air Force, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
After the war, he was in the Chemical business with his brother, Larry. He was president of Charles Schaefer and Sons Inc. in Union, NJ.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hamilton, his brother Lawrence, his children Frederick Schaefer 3rd, Lauren Schaefer and Carol Schaefer Mc Knight, and her husband Thomas. Also three grandchildren, Lauren, Guyon, and Emily Mc Knight. He is also survived by three stepsons, John, Neil , and Ted Hamilton. Two step daughters, Jan Havens Greer, Judi Havens, and eight step grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dartmouth College Athletic Sponsor Program, or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Westfield, NJ.
