George Robert Edgcumbe III of Fanwood died Sunday evening November 19, 2006 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Visitation will be held at Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield on Sunday from 2-5 pm and also on Monday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at which time the funeral services will begin. Interment will follow in Cresthaven Cemetery, Clifton.
Mr. Edgcumbe was born in Jersey City to the late George Robert Edgcumbe, Jr. and Kathryn Durr Edgcumbe. He lived in Jersey City for 50 years before moving to Fanwood 47 years ago.
He was employed by the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City for 45 years and retired as Head of the Securities Transfer Division.
He was an accomplished pianist and played on the radio station WHOM in the 1930's. He also performed with several bands during the Big Band Era. He will always be remembered for the joy he brought into everyones lives with his music.
Mr. Edgcumbe is survived by his wife of 73 years, A. Carol Goldey Edgcumbe. Two daughters, Marilyn Grant of Rowland Heights, Ca. and Joyce Edgcumbe-Kleine of Watchung. He will also be deeply missed by his four grandchildren, Geoffrey Grant, George Grant, Kimberly Kleine and Kirsten Kleine Karr and ten great grandchildren, Mackenzie Grant, Christopher Grant, Andrew Karr, Amanda Karr, John Karr, Oliver Grant, Kathryn Needles, Grace Needles, Avery Grant and Owen Grant.
In lieu of flowers, doantions in his memory may be made to the Fanwood Rescue Squad, 75 North Martine Ave., Fanwood, NJ 07023 would be appreciated.
