Gerald R. Ashfield

Gerald "Jerry" Ashfield a long time resident of Cranford passed away on Monday June 23, 2008.
The son of the late John and Irene Ashfield, predeceased by his brother John and wife Gertrude. Jerry was born in Union on August 31, 1932, graduated from Roselle Park High School and served in the USAF for four years. He was an insurance and real estate agent and for many years enjoyed" finding homes for lonely pianos" retiring from Steinway Piano's in 2000.
Jerry enjoyed his family, friends and neighbors. His goal was "to make someone smile each day." He was a member of Cranford United Methodist Church and served as an usher. He enjoyed his love of music as a member of the Westfield Old Guard and the Rahway Valley Jerseyaires chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, serving through the years as president, committee chairman and board member.
Devoted husband of Nancy for 47 years and loving father of Susan and husband Raymond Cotay and John and partner Greg Humphrey. Also survived by dear brother Raymond and wife Joy; and the joy of his life his grandsons RJ and Ryan Cotay and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, August 3 at 2pm at Cranford United Methodist Church on Walnut Avenue.
