Gerhard W. Schmidt

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 10 am in St. Theresa R.C. Church in Kenilworth for Mr. Gerhard W. Schmidt age 81 who passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at his residence in Greenacres, Florida. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visiting will be on Saturday from 4-7 in the Gray Funeral Home 318 East Broad Street, Westfield.
Mr. Schmidt was the son of Philip and Maria Schmidt and was born in Stuttgart, Germany on December 20, 1925. After coming to the United States he became a US citizen. He was amechanical engineer and draftsman by trade. He worked for Singer-Kearfott of Wayne, NJ and Gauer Metal of Kenilworth, NJ. He ended his career as the General Manager for the European operations of Heyco in Giessen, Germany. He had the distinction of serving in both the German and American Armies. He was a beautiful and kind soul that will be sorely missed.
He leaves behind his niece, Dr. Mary-Lou Ernst Woodhouse of Webster, IA, and nephew, Douglas Ernst of Bernardsville, NJ and their families.
