Gordon B. Bramwell

August 16, 1949 — January 13, 2024

Cranford, NJ

Gordon Bruce Bramwell Sr, born August 16, 1949, left us unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, January 13, 2024. He was 74 years young. Gordon was our devoted and generous husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and our beloved Pop Pop. His family and his friends are deeply saddened by his sudden departure.

Gordon was a life-long learner and education enthusiast. He had a tolerance for large biographies and history books, often weighing the book in his hands before deciding its worthiness.  He liked retelling entertaining stories from his reading, sometimes with a hint of inaccuracy and/or exaggeration. He played Jeopardy nightly, dutifully completed his daily Duolingo Spanish lessons and five-mile morning walks, and earned both his undergraduate degree, from Bloomfield College, and his MBA, from Fairleigh Dickinson University, while working a few jobs and paying his rent to his mother. Gordon was the “tough that got going” and enlisted in the Army Reserves after completing his undergraduate degree, later establishing a successful career in banking most notably with Midlantic and PNC Bank, a career that spanned several decades before he successfully retired.

Gordon’s many joys included living in Cranford, where he resided with his family for over thirty years. He found joy in God and was a member of the Holy Trinity Church of Westfield, where he volunteered with the Westfield Food Pantry and their Mobile Meals program. He found joy in preparing and filing taxes for the residents of Elizabeth. He often did not find joy rooting for his N.Y. Yankees and Giants but forgave and (rarely) forgot until the next season approached.

Gordon loved his Lil, the ocean, and his hikes. He enjoyed many cruises and trips with Lil that allowed him to see beaches, mountains, and national parks that left him in awe and wonder. In later years, he loved being surrounded by his granddaughters’ laughter and shrieks in the home he loved so much.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lillian Marie, his three children, Gordon Jr, Kelly and her husband Russell, and Ryan David and his wife Robin. He is forever remembered by his three younger brothers, Jeff, Wayne, and Mark. He is loved and remembered by his four treasures, granddaughters Nella, Cassie, Margot, and Amber. He is loved and remembered by his friends, old and new, nephew, nieces, and his in-laws. Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Michaeline, and predeceased by his canine and feline companions, Teddy, Pepper, and Roger.

In his memory, donations can be made to the Mobile Meals program of Westfield, NJ. https://www.mobilemealsofwestfield.org/
