HARVEY KENYON NEVALLS, JR.
Harvey Kenyon Nevalls, Jr of Cranford, NJ age 99, died December 17th, 2021. He was born January 9th, 1922 in Buffalo, NY and graduated from the University of Buffalo with a BS in Business Administration in February 1943. He entered the Samson Naval Training Center, Geneva, NY in March 1943, and subsequently became a Quartermaster and instructor at the base. In September 1944 he was commissioned an Ensign, USNR and married Mary Eileen Clark, of Canton, NY his college sweetheart before he transferred to Harvard University where he completed communications and cryptology courses and was assigned to the Commander's staff aboard the light-duty cruiser Vincennes. He was later assigned to the battleship New Jersey which went to Japan and is now berthed in Camden, NJ. He was honorably discharged in March 1946 as Lieutenant Junior Grade and lived in Buffalo NY. He became a sales trainee with the truck division of International Harvester Company, and was later transferred to Erie, PA as a Zone Manager in 1948, New York City as a Sales Promotion Manager in 1952, and then various Branch Manager positions in Elizabeth, NJ, Long Island City & Brooklyn, NY, Jersey City, Newark, and Linden, NJ before retiring after thirty-six years in 1982.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cranford, NJ form 1953, and served as Deacon, Elder, President of the Board of Trustees and Couples Club. An amateur ornithologist, he showed his original bird slides to area groups and clubs. He also loved to write poetry and was published in the Noble House's book "Theatre of Mind" and the International Library of Poetry Book "In Dawn's Shadow".
He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Mary Clark Nevalls, his children, son Harvey Kenyon Nevalls III, and daughters Marsha Nevalls Blake, Wendy Nevalls, and Linda Nevalls Moyer, Son-in Laws Dan Blake and Paul Moyer, Daughter in-Law Faith Nevalls, Grandchildren Kenyon Nevalls, Jared Nevalls, Hope Kendra Nevalls, Jody Lin Blake Amonds, Madeline Crossle Moyer and Clay Cameron Moyer, and Great Grandchildren, Angelo Lyric Blake, King Jaydan Blake, and Isla Angel Amonds, and Sister-in-Law Lura Speer.
A memorial service for both Harvey, and Mary, will be 11 am October 15, 2022 f 2022 in the First Presbyterian Church of Cranford. Final interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Miner Street, Canton, NY.
