Henrietta S. Dreyer, a local business woman and a former teacher, passed away on October 12, 2007 at her residence in Cranford, NJ.
Born in Springfield, NJ, she graduated from Roselle Park High School and Newark Teachers College. She taught elementary school in Springfield for several years prior to operating Dreyer Farms with her late husband, Henry and was later joined by her sons, John and Henry, who continue to run the farm today. Dreyer Farm has been a Cranford landmark for 103 years.
A member of the Union County Board of Agriculture for more than fifty years, Mrs. Dreyer was the only woman to have served a term as president. She was also a member of th New Jersey Farm Bureau, and was elected the Farm Bureau Woman Of the year in 1964.
Mrs. Dreyer was a member of The First Presbyterian Church in Cranford where she served as deacon and trustee of the Sunday school. She was also a member of The Cranford Historical Society, and served on its Board Of Directors.
In addition to her sons, Henry and John, she is survived by her daughters-in-law, Martha and Carol, and her grandchildren, Jessica and her husband, Adam, Abigail, Henry and his wife, Deirdre, and Brett and his wife, Nicole. She was also survived by her great grandchildren, Shea and Ethan.
Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Presbyterian Church, Cranford or the Cranford Historical Society. A memorial service will be on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 11 Springfield Ave. Cranford. Burial will be private under the direction of The Gray Memorial Funeral Home, Cranford, NJ. There will be no visitation.
