Henry “Hank” Krochmal III
Henry “Hank” Krochmal III, a long time resident of Linden, New Jersey, passed away on February 21, 2025 at the Center for Hope Hospice Peggy’s House location, in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Hank was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Henry and Florence Krochmal (both now deceased) in 1941. He was the first born among his siblings.
As a child in Elizabeth, he was baptized at the Greystone Presbyterian Church. Hank attended John Marshall School number 20, and then Grover Cleveland Junior High School.
In 1956, Hank’s family moved to Cranford, New Jersey. Hank attended Cranford High School where he graduated with the CHS class of 1959. While living in Cranford, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Hank started work at the age of sixteen at a small local business in Roselle. After graduating High School, Hank attended the Union County Vocational Technical School studying Data Processing. For a time, Hank worked at Boyle-Midway in Cranford.
Hank served in Vietnam in the 15th Administrative Company of the 1st Cavalry Division of the United States Army. During his time in the Army, he received a Good Conduct medal, a Vietnam Service medal, and a Sharpshooter Badge.
In October of 1968, Hank married Genevieve “Jenny” Kennedy at the Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park, New Jersey.
Hank then worked at EMSI (Esso Mathematics and Systems Inc.) in Florham Park as a computer operator for 34 years before retiring. As part of his work with EMSI, he was subcontracted to do work at Exxon. At EMSI, Hank was part of the company Social Club where he organized group activities for the employees at theatrical and sports events.
Hank greatly enjoyed the theater and musicals. His favorite annual event was attending the Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea Christmas Concert with Father Alphonse when they would appear at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway each December. Often, he would organize a large group of his friends and family to attend the show with him and his wife Jenny. Hank was also a big sports fan, following Rutgers football. He was a life long New York Mets fan, picking them as them likely winners of the World Series back in 1969.
Hank leaves behind his wife Jenny, his sisters Geraldine, Sue and Pam, his nephew David and his wife Dawn, his grand nephew Dillon, his nephew Michael and his wife Kristen, and his Uncle Roman, along with several cousins.
Hank was a very happy and friendly person who loved meeting and talking with new people. When out shopping, he often struck up friendly conversations with people he had never met before. Hank is loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by them.
