Services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2009 at Woodbridge Memorial Park, Woodbridge for Ira 'Bud' Edelman who passed away at his home in Cranford on Tuesday, March 17, 2009. Arrangements are by the Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford.
Mr. Edelman was born in Jersey City and lived in Roselle before moving to Cranford 55 years ago. Bud was a graduate of Newark College of Engineering where he received a Masters in Civil Engineering. He also graduated from the Yale School of Flight Engineering in Connecticut. During World War II, Bud trained at Randolph Field in San Antonio, Texas where he became a First Lieutenant. He taught flight training and engineering pertaining to flight throughout the war at Yale and Randolph. Prior to the war ending he became a Captain and was under the direct command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Brigadier General Doolittle and he assisted covering the ground troops of General Patton.
Upon returning from the war he soon became affiliated with the Austin Company, as a civil engineer and cost estimator, in Roselle for thirty three years and retired in 1980.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, June, his children; Guy and his wife, Drenna and also Judy. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Emily, Elizabeth, Matthew, Adam and Rebecca.
