James Sterling Bungerz, 48, of Westfield, NJ, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, September 24 after a valiant struggle with ALS. He was born on January 23, 1960 in Allentown, PA, to Mary Ann and the late Karl Bungerz Jr. While attending Parkland High School, Jim earned his Eagle Scout Award as a member of Troop 60. He received his undergraduate degree from Muhlenberg College and completed his M.B.A. at Fordham University. He and his family moved to Westfield in 1994.
Jim's wide-ranging career in financial services led him most recently to his position of VP at Independent Fiduciary Services in Newark, NJ. Additionally, Jim was the creator and founder of ID PILOT Corporation, a firm that owns the trademark and patent rights to a labeling identification system for organizing electronic equipment for both home and office.
Jim was an Elder of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield and actively served on the Investment Committee, the Congregational Nominating Committee, and in many other capacities.
Jim was passionate about ice hockey and involved himself in all facets: as a player, as a coach and as the biggest fan of all three of his kids who played the sport. Above all else, Jim was a dedicated family man who cherished and was cherished by his wife, Deb, and his children, Morgan, Danny and Jessica. He was loved by many and his strong, kind presence will be missed by all.
In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his mother and two brothers: Robert, of Allentown, PA, and Karl, of Philadelphia, PA. Visitation with the family will be at The Presbyterian Church in Westfield on Saturday, September 27 from 2 – 4pm. A memorial service will be held in the church's sanctuary on Sunday, September 28, at 1pm, followed immediately by a reception. Arrangements are by the Gray Funeral Home in Westfield.
