James G. McWhorter age 67. Born August 4, 1944 in Rahway, NJ Died suddenly on January 14, 2012 at his residence in Cranford, NJ . Lived in Rahway, NJ, Columbia, SC and for the past 42 years in Cranford, NJ Husband of the late Janet (nee Hopkins) McWhorter (2011) Son of the late James Garnett McWhorter and Anna (nee Binder) McWhorter Father of Nancy DiMartino and her husband Joseph of Cranford NJ and his grandsons Matthew and Thomas DiMartino Father of Ryan McWhorter and his wife Denise of Martinsville, VA Also survived by his siblings Margaret Woolley and her husband David and his brother Bruce and his wife Donna, as well as many nieces, nephews and good friends. Graduated from Rahway High School . B.S. Geology, Clemson University, Clemson, SC M.S. Geology, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ Registered Professional Geologist in N.J., SC and ME Worked at Dames & Moore for 25 years Retired from Geosciences Service in August 2011 Avid Bagpiper, most recently with the Bergen Irish Pipe Band and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Aagency Pipe Band. He was an Amateur Woodworker Totally devoted grandfather, never missed a baseball game, football game or wrestling match and was the Cranford Cougar's Number 1 fan. Jim was an incredible man, devoted to his family and friends and will be be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him. Visitation Thurday from 2-4, 7-9 pm at Gray Memorial Funeral Home 12 Springfield Avenue, Cranfor. Funeral services 10 am Friday January 20, 2012, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in his memory to the charity of your choice.
