Jane Tomlinson Mathews, 89 died at home on July 10th after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Cranford she was the daughter of Richard Lee Tomlinson and Alice Rosencrantz Tomlinson. Jane was a member of the Cranford High School class of 1948 and went on to graduate from New Jersey College for Women (now known as Douglass Residential College of Rutgers University). While a student there she met George Duncan Mathews whom she married in 1952. After living in Westfield for several years they moved to Cranford where they raised four sons.
After Dunc's death in 1987 Jane became a sales associate with Weichert Realtors in Westfield. Jane was an avid lap swimmer at the Cranford pool and routinely swam for over 42 years. She enjoyed movies and eating out with friends. She was a member of the College Women's Club of Cranford, the First Presbyterian Church of Cranford and served many years on the Executive Board of Cranford Family Care.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a brother Peter Lee Tomlinson and nephew Richard Lee Tomlinson. She is survived by her son Duncan (Judy) of Cranford, Tom (Cindy) of Dodgeville, Wisconsin, Jeff (Patty) of Milford New Jersey, Bruce (Jill) of Cranford and her six grandchildren, Jeffery(Diana) Michael, Jake, Charlie, Katie and Kayla, her brother Jeremy Tomlinson, her sister-in-law, Carole of Cranford and her niece , Julie Tomlinson of Oak Point, Texas. Donations in memory of Jane may be directed to Cranford Family Care Association, the College Women's Club of Cranford Scholarship Fund or the First Presbyterian Church.
