Janet H. McWhorter Lifelong Cranford Resident, Executive Assistant Janet H. McWhorter, 65, of Cranford, NJ, died on Sunday, July 3, 2011, just 9 days shy of her 66th birthday. The family will be receiving condolences on Wednesday, July 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Avenue, in Cranford, NJ. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7 at Gray Memorial Funeral Home with burial to follow the service immediately at Fairview Cemetery off the Gallows Hill Road entrance in Westfield, NJ. Raised in Cranford, Janet graduated from Cranford High School and from the Katherine Gibbs School. She was a 50-year member of the Cranford United Methodist Church. Janet worked for Dames & Moore, an international consulting firm later purchased by the URS Corporation, from 1983 until her passing. Most recently she was an Executive Assistant with Lear, Siegler Services, Inc. in Shrewsbury NJ, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the URS Corp. Janet was predeceased by her parents, Charles B. and Nancy Hopkins, also of Cranford. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James G. McWhorter; a daughter Nancy DiMartino and her husband Joseph of Cranford; by two grandsons, Matthew and Thomas DiMartino and by her son, Ryan J. and his wife Denise, of Martinsville, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 135 Mountain View Rd., Basking Ridge, NJ.
