Janina (Albina) Rozanski Jackson a long time Westfield Resident died on May 29, 2006 in Manor Care in Yardley Pennsylvania. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 11:30 am at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 414 East Broad Street, Westfield. Interment to follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visiting will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Gray Funeral Home 318 East Broad Street, Westfield.
She was 85 years old. She was born in South Plainfield and has lived in Westfield for the last 38 years.
In 1938 she graduated from North Plainfield High School.
She was a 1942 graduate of NJC for Women now Douglass College, Rutgers University with a double major in History and English and a minor in French.
In 1947 she received a masters degree from Columbia University in Library and History.
A lifelong educator, Mrs. Jackson taught in many communities. She started her career at Roosevelt School in South Plainfield, where she had originally been a student.
She was Assistant Dean of Women at Alliance College for several years. Throughout the 1950's and 60's she taught English as a Second Language and citizenship classes at Plainfield Adult School.
From 1976 until her retirement in 1992, she was a substitute teacher at Westfield High School.
She was a member of St. Pauls Church, Westfield, leader at Washington Rock Girl Scout Council, Music Director of Scouts at Childrens Specialized Hospital, College Alumnae Class Fund Agent - NJC (Douglass) and also the library Advisory Board President in Westfield Public Schools.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert W. Jackson and a sister Irene Zabiliski. She is survived by her children Robert, Thomas and Kathy and also a sister Eleanor Siatkowski.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the National Association for the Visually Handicapped or to St. Joseph's School for the Blind in Jersey City.
