In 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Dick Attenborough. They moved to East Orange, NJ where she joined the Visiting Nurse Association of Elizabeth. Following the birth of their daughter Suzanne, Jeanne retired from nursing. She completed her BS in Nursing at Wilkes College taking summer classes. She was a Girl Scout Leader, volunteered in the schools, was an active member of The Presbyterian Church of Westfield, chaired the Board of the YWCA, and tirelessly supported The Westfield Neighborhood Council. In 1977, Jeanne returned to the Visiting Nurse Association of Elizabeth as a nurse quickly rising to become a supervisor. Jeanne and Dick played bridge together, loved opera holding a subscription to the Metropolitan Opera for 25 years, were avid Yankees fans, enjoyed time at Lake Owassa, and doted on their granddaughter. Bridge, needlepoint, embroidery, gardening, collecting owls and dolls, and caring for others made her happy. She was a warm and welcoming hostess well known for Sunday dinners, bridge nights and her annual Christmas Open House.
