Jennie Lambrite Williams of Westfield, NJ age 91, died on August 1st, 2022, just one day before her 92nd birthday. Jennie was born in Tinicum Township, Bucks County PA, on the farm of her parents, Edward and Sadie Lambrite. She was the youngest of four girls. She graduated from Doylestown High School and then went on to earn a bachelors and teaching degree from Stroudsburg University in 1952. After graduation, Jennie taught school in Montclair, NJ. Jennie met Alexander Scott Williams while summering in Bay Head, NJ during the summer of 1958. They married on November 22, 1958, and first lived in Ardmore, PA, before moving to Westfield in 1963.
Jennie was an active member of the Westfield Service League and the Westfield Garden Club, in which she later became an honorary member. While a member of the Westfield Garden Club, she held the positions of Workshop Chairwoman, Library Flowers Chairwoman, First Vice President and Program Chairwoman, and finally President. She supported many projects within the Garden Club of New Jersey and co-chaired two Garden Club house tours. Jennie was also responsible for managing the floral pots in downtown Westfield. During the years of 1968 through 1978 when her husband, Alex, served on the
Westfield Town Council, first as Councilman and later as Mayor, Jennie played a key role as both campaigner and advisor. She was also a long-time member of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, where she served on numerous Pastoral Selection Committees and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Westfield Tennis Club as well as Echo Lake Country Club.
While married to Alex, Jennie spent many happy summers â first at their summer home in Normandy Shores, NJ, and later at the Auburn Colony in South Harpswell, Maine. While in Maine Jennie enjoyed designing her own cutting garden adjacent to their home. Jennie is survived by her beloved husband, Alex, along with her children âson Bill Williams of Cranford, NJ, daughter Toni Williams Winslow and son-in-law Edward J. Winslow, Jr. of Wilton, CT, as well as Grandchildren Edward J. Winslow III of New York City, Caroline Winslow Taggart of Boston, MA, John F. Winslow of New York City, Derek A. Williams of Cranford, NJ, and Nolan R. Williams of Hillsboro, OR.
Jennie's Service of Remembrance will begin at 11:00AM Friday, August 19, 2022, at The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, 140 Mountain Avenue with interment in the Revolutionary Cemetery, Westfield.
