JOAN KATHERINE NAGLE, of Westfield, NJ, died January 27, 2016 at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ. Born Joan Katherine Murtha in Manhattan, NY, she spent her formative years at Our Lady of Lourdes School High School of the Blessed Sacrament and attended Hunter College. Prior to her marriage to Richard Nagle she was employed at Henri Bendel. She resided in Westfield for the past 60 years where she raised two daughters. Joan returned to the workforce when her children were older as a Union County Sheriff's officer working primarily in the Union County Courthouse. She subsequently worked coordinating community service for the Sheriff's Labor Assistance Program. Joan was predeceased by her husband Richard, and two sisters and a brother. She is survived by her daughter Patricia K. Nagle, her daughter Sharon Nagle, son-in-law John Caraluzzo, three grandchildren John, Luke, and Katie. In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law Catherine Odell as well as close friends and former colleagues. Joan was an avid gardener, voracious reader and crossword enthusiast. A private service is planned. A memorial service to honor her life will be held in April, 2016 on a date to be determined.
