Joan Alice (nee Dushanek) Roll, 89, formerly of Garwood, died November 9, 2014 in Brooklyn, NY, where she had been a resident. Born in Garwood to the late Frederick and Ellen Donoughue Dushanek, Joan was retired from the National Council of Churches, in New York, where she had been an executive secretary, and program specialist. She was the beloved wife of the late Reverend Kenneth E. Roll Sr., who was ordained in St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Garwood. He was a relative of early pioneer Baltus Roll, an ancestor, whose farm is now the Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ. Joan was also preceded in death by her daughter: Kathiellen Roll Gilligan, brother: Frederick Dushanek, and is survived by her son: Kenneth E. Roll Jr. of Garwood, her daughter: Deborah Alice Roll of Brooklyn Hgts, NY, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, sister: Jane Limone, and husband Tony, nieces and nephews. Joan's Life Celebration will begin at 11AM Tuesday November 18, 2014 at Gray Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad St., Westfield, where her funeral service will follow at 12:30PM Tuesday.
