Joanne Aspinall Sullebarger, a Westfield resident for over 50 years, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2020 in Cincinnati where she had lived since 2014. Born in Newark in 1930, she attended the Vail-Deane School in Elizabeth. She received a B.A. from Douglass College in 1952 after also attending Mount Holyoke College and Barnard and later obtained a certificate from the New York School of Interior Design. She married Franklyn Jackson Sullebarger in 1951 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2016. In addition to being mother of three, Joanne applied her ample artistic talents to fashion modeling, interior design and gardening. Her charitable activities included the Westfield Garden Club, the Junior League, and the St. George's Society of New York. She enjoyed membership at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield and the Dorset Field Club in Dorset, Vermont, and was a champion golfer. Joanne is survived by three childrenâBeth (David Edmundson) of Cincinnati, Dr. J. Thompson (Sutha Kulagnanam) of Tampa, and Robert (Elizabeth Canevari) of Harvard, MA, and four grandchildrenâJeffrey, Melissa, William and Jane.
