Cranford- John Paul Dizzia, 74 years old, passed away at Overlook Medical Center on Sunday, December 22, 2019.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 27, 2019 at the Snyder chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 11 Springfield Avenue, Cranford, NJ. Entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Arrangements are by Gray Memorial Funeral Home.
Born and raised in Paterson, NJ to the late Salvatore and Mary (Fabiano) Dizzia, John moved to Union County in 1977.
He received his bachelor's and law degrees from Rutgers University and began his career as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Jersey. He moved to private practice following his time in public service and went on to serve countless medical professionals and institutions for the next forty-two years. He married the love of his life, Lorraine, in 1972 with whom he had two daughters and relished his vibrant home life. The bright light in his family's lives, John was a talented storyteller, a musician who captivated with his renditions of folk guitar songs and classic bagpiping tunes alike, and a lover of history and poetry. His grandchildren especially loved to gather around Grampy and hear the tales of his childhood as a butcher's son. John was the bright light in his family's lives and will not fade in memory. He modeled a life of generosity, intellectual rigor, kindness and humor that he has instilled in each of his family members.
Mr. Dizzia is predeceased by his brother Sam Dizzia (2018) and sister Phyllis Dizzia (2019). He is survived by his wife Lorraine (née Bladis) of Cranford, his daughter Maria Dizzia and her husband Will Eno, his daughter Gina Dizzia and her husband Daniel Fernandez, his grandchildren Julian, Tomas, Albertine, his brother Neil Dizzia and his wife Elizabeth Dizzia, his cousin Andrew Ruggiero, his niece Ellen Dizzia, and his nephew Greg Dizzia and his wife Christie and grand-niece Nüwa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made in John Dizzia's memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Cranford, NJ.
