John Iwanyshyn

John Iwanyshyn, 102, of Mountainside, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023 after a brief illness, at Overlook Hospital. He was born February 16, 1921 to parents Pauline (Swachey) and Dymitry Iwanyshyn of Linden NJ. After growing up in Roselle NJ, John married Inez Mathisen on June 12, 1943.  John and Inez were married for 75 happy years!  They were long time residents of Cranford before moving to Mountainside in 1974. John enlisted in the Coast Guard and served during WWII.  He was employed by Western Electric for 45 years.

John is survived by their three daughters, Karyl-Lynn Miller, Janice Bernhard, and Nancy Pastore and her husband David, as well as five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

John and Inez were active members of the Mountainside Seniors. They spent many years square dancing and traveling throughout the United States and to numerous countries. John, also called “Pop” by family, will always be remembered for his generous love and his zest for life. He was truly a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. 

A service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Calvary Lutheran Church, 108 Eastman Street, Cranford, NJ 07016.
