John E. Mattson

Mr. John E. Mattson, 77, of Cranford. passed away Thursday, July 13th, 2006 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, Plainfield, NJ.

Mr. Mattson was born in Jersey City, NJ on June 1, 1929, the son of the late Edmund J. and Helmi (Strand). He lived in Cranford since 1962. He also maintained a Winter residence in Atlantis, Florida.

He worked as a Director Of Central Services at Union County Elizabeth, NJ., for many years Retiring in 1997.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church Cranford, NJ.

He is pre deceased by his wife Geraldine E. Mattson who died in October of 2005.

Daughter(s): Elizabeth (Liz) Mattson of Cranford, NJ. Also survived by five dear nieces and nephews, many good friends and collogues.


John was active in community services, being an origional member of The Cranford Senior Citizens Housing Board, and member of The Planning Board. Co-chairman of The Jaycee River Carnival, and former member of the Cranford and Bayonne Jaycees, President of NJ Jaycee Senate and for his achievements was awarded a life membership in the Jaycee International Senate-Senate Number 6198.

He was also involved in local politics, and was chairman of The Cranford Municipal Committee in the 1970"s , and was a member of The Union County Republican Committee since 1965.

Services Of Thanksgiving for the life of John Mattson will be at the Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford, NJ, at 4 PM following the visitation hours, on Saturday, July 15th, with Rev. Pat Eustis officiating.

Visitation will be Friday 7-9 PM. and Saturday 2-4 PM. at Gray Memorial Funeral Home. .

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The Cranford First Aid Squad, Trinity Episcopal Church or The American Cancer Society.
