It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Henry Saffer. Born Oct 7th 1946 in Jersey City. He moved to Cranford as a child, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a proud member of the Cranford Elks Club for 45 years.
He had a huge heart under a tough exterior. He was loyal, caring and had a wicked sense of humor. He loved all animals and would feed them everywhere he went, which got him into trouble most of the time. He enjoyed fishing, especially with his son Johnny. Not a day went by that he didn't need to check the lottery numbers. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cheryl Saffer, his son John, who sadly predeceased his father. Daughter Christy Thompson (her husband Eric Thompson), Three grandchildren: Amanda Deo (her husband Joseph Deo), Jersey Thompson, Sarah Thompson and two great-grandchildren: Finley Deo and Harper Deo, his sister Sandra DiLuccio (her husband Richard DiLuccio) and his nieces and nephew.
He is loved very much by his family and will be missed dearly.
