Jose S. Barreto

José Silvério Pereira Barreto passed away on June 18, 2022. He was 76 years old. Preceded in death by his parents Viriato Da Silva Barreto and Isaura Pereira Da Silva.

Jose was born and raised in Viseu Portugal alongside his younger brother Manuel Barreto. Jose's adventurous spirit led him to Angola, Africa at the age of 15. He would go on to serve in the Commandos special forces unit for the Portuguese army in Angola. It was through one of his army buddies he was introduced to the love of his life, Fatima. Jose and Fatima were wed on June 29, 1973. Fleeing wars and chasing dreams, Jose and Fatima have lived on 3 different continents creating a loving home for their children and stories to tell beyond imagination.

Jose was a devoted follower of Christ. He was a member of Ministério Filadélfia where he served as an elder.

Remaining to cherish Jose's memory are his loving wife Maria Fatima Barreto; children Isabel Barreto, Jose Barreto and his wife Noemi Barreto, and Raquel Barreto; grandchildren Lucas Barreto, Abigail Barreto, and Sofia Barreto; brother Manuel Barreto and his wife Teresa Barreto; family throughout Portugal and the United States.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25th from 3 pm-5 pm at Gray Memorial Funeral Home 12 Springfield Ave. Cranford, NJ 07016.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in memory of Jose S. Barreto to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to support cancer research.

José Silvério Pereira Barreto, de 76 anos, faleceu dia 18 de Junho de 2022. Precedido na morte por seus pais Viriato Da Silva Barreto e Isaura Pereira Da Silva.

José nasceu e cresceu em Viseu, Portugal ao lado do seu irmão mais novo Manuel Barreto. O espírito aventureiro de José com apenas 15 anos, levou-o para Angola, África, onde viria a servir na unidade de forças especiais Comandos do exército Português. Foi através de um dos seus companheiros de combate que ele foi apresentado ao amor da sua vida, Fátima. José e Fátima casaram dia 29 de Junho de 1973. Fugindo de guerras e perseguindo sonhos, José e Fátima viveram em 3 continentes diferentes criando um lar amoroso para os seus três filhos, histórias e memórias que ficarão para sempre nos seus corações.

José era um devoto seguidor de Cristo. Foi membro do Ministério Filadélfia onde serviu como presbítero.

Remanescendo a memória de José estão sua amada esposa Maria Fátima Barreto; filhos Isabel Barreto, José Barreto e sua esposa Noemi Barreto, e Raquel Barreto; netos Lucas Barreto, Abigail Barreto, e Sofia Barreto; irmão Manuel Barreto e sua esposa Teresa Barreto; família em Portugal e nos Estados Unidos.

Uma cerimônia fúnebre em sua memória será realizada no sábado, dia 25 de Junho, entre as 15:00 e as 17:00 horas, na casa fúnebre Gray Memorial, 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford, NJ.

Em vez de flores, a família solicita que sejam enviados donativos em memória de José S. Barreto para Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center para apoiar a investigação do cancro.
