Joseph R. Car age 92 died on Thursday November 13, 2008 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. Born in Carteret, NJ, he lived in Mountainside since 1954. Jospeh was a graduate from Rutgers University obtaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering, where he taught business classes. He was Vice President of Purchasing for Johnson and Johnson in New Brunswick for 42 years before his retirement. Mr. Car is credited with introducing the plastic baby powder container to Johnson & Johnson and served as the in-house expert in plastics and glass. Mr. Car was also a licensed architect. He was also President of the Mountainside Board Of Health for 35 years. Joseph was a founding member of Our Lady Of Lourdes R.C. Church in Mountainside. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years to Helen Car. A son Dr. Joseph R. Car, and his wife Patricia. A devoted daughter Mary Ann Car. Also survived by his granddaughter Kristin A., a grandson, Michael J. and his wife Cheryl Kelly. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 PM at The Gray Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad St., Westfield. A funeral mass will be 10 am Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Mountainside, with burial to follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society.
